| "Adele Myers' work is so theatrical and engaging. She creates a visceral connection to her audience that one can't help to be drawn into her unique perspective of the world." Shannon R. Mayers, Director, Redfern Arts Center |

ARTIST STATEMENT
I am interested in people dancing, and not simply dancers moving. Through a collaborative process, I work with dancers to navigate the chemistry between them as individuals and their relationship with the audience. Framed by a formal choreographic structure the movement style blends a robust athleticism with a casual personable presence of the performer. The impulse for these dances originates from personal experience, and we then explore how that individual experience intersects with popular culture as part of the collective unconscious. These intersections are conveyed through a chunky non-linear collage format combining energetic full-bodied dancing with everyday gestures, text, and a subtle sense of humor. I tend toward a social commentary that often asks, "why aren't we being more honest about this?" |
