Theater in the Head

2010

"Theater in the Head" is a quest for intimacy between performers and their audience. It offers spectacle then reveals its mechanics by stripping them away. Developed with composer, Josh Quillen of the So Percussion ensemble, the 50 minute quintet incorporates Myers' robust athleticism fused with theatricality and humor. The concept for "Theater in the Head" originated during an Emerging Choreographer residency at the Bates Dance Festival and was further developed during a one-year creative residency at the Vermont Performance Lab (VPL). VPL was also a co-commissioner of the work and presented the premiere in June 2011 at the Progressive Performance Festival- launching the company's 2011-2012 tour to five of the six states throughout New England. The tour will culminate with four performances in NYC in May 2012 at the Soaking Wet performance series, located at the West End Theater and curated by David Parker.
